From Middle Earth:Middle Earth’s First Community Council Meeting – The Student Spirit Edition

Middle Earth’s First Community Council Meeting – The Student Spirit Edition

The first Community Council General Meeting kicked off with much enthusiasm as the members of the Council (not embarrassingly, but HEROICALLY) rushed into Bucklebury amidst fanfare and resounding cheers. The theme of the meeting was “CLUSTERS,” which I can assure you is exactly NOT how it reads in this outreach chair’s recently lost E-mail message from nearly a week ago!

Beginning with a brief introduction to this year’s CC team and the announcement of the UCI Water Battle, the meeting’s high-energy atmosphere peaked when each of the halls competed for a spirit award. What was expected to be a simple roll call transformed into a turn-based cheering battle between the halls!

Yes, cluster allegiance was tossed aside! Yes, it was absolutely hilarious when one of the halls was interrupted and otherwise completely Kanye’d in the midst of its awesome cheering routine! And YES, only one hall, Gondolin, was given the Spirit Stick for its members’ brazen bellowing.

In other news, Rivendell’s Rivendudes won the hall banner competition while Whispering Wood of PICCL, Valimar of IR, Shadowfax of I-Team, Woodhall of HSSLR, Harrowdale of DIP, and Hobbiton of ECHO won for being the halls with the best attendance at the meeting within their individual clusters. More victories followed with the election of two representatives for the Government of Undergraduate Student Housing; their names are Gayle Abraham and Michael Levy!

And to go a bit further into Middle Earth’s ongoing water conservation war (wait, who fights a water war without using water?), this is a battle between halls, an event to determine who can conserve the most water and last the longest without flushing and showering! Yay for dirt and grime and water conservation! A list of frequently updated rankings is available on UC Irvine Water Battle 2012’s Facebook page as well as http://aquacue.net/competition/ucirvine. Pledge yourself to the cause, and we promise you that if UCI Student Housing or PowerSave Green Campus don’t award you for winning, the Community Council will (at the very least) acknowledge your bragging rights.
Lastly, do not forget about 2012 Southern RAP, a conference hosted by UCI for student housing leaders interested in brainstorming new programming ideas and showing school spirit! Volunteer to contribute to this today!
